About Kazuaki Tanahashi

Kazuaki Tanahashi, co-founder of Jizos for Peace, is an artist and writer trained in Japan and active in the United States. As a painter, he is the pioneer of the genre of "one stroke painting" as well as the creator of multi-color Ensos (Zen circles). As a calligrapher he creates large single-ideograph pieces. Kaz's brushwork has been shown in solo-exhibitions in galleries, museums, and universities all over the world. Kaz is a fellow of World Academy of Art and Science, and his publications include Brush Mind, Miracles of the Moment, Penetrating Laughter: Hakuin's Zen and Art, and Enlightenment Unfolds. Kaz offers yearly calligraphy workshops at Great Vow Zen Monastery. Kaz will be traveling to Japan on the Jizos for Peace pilgrimage.
